Does Pennsylvania Require a Registered Agent?
No. The Commonwealth requires an address, not a person. Every Pennsylvania LLC must keep a registered office in the state so courts, creditors, and the Department of State always have a place to deliver legal papers. You satisfy that duty one of two ways: list a Pennsylvania street address of your own, or contract with a CROP and name the provider in lieu of an address. Anyone telling you that Pennsylvania law forces you to hire an agent is selling harder than the statute does.

An LLC may use its own address as the registered office, and § 8825 is explicit that the office may but need not be the company's place of business, so a home address qualifies. The trade-offs are practical. The address must be a street or rural route address, never just a PO box, unless a CROP is named instead. It goes into the public record, where anyone can pull it up. And it needs to be somewhere that service of process can actually reach you, because a lawsuit delivered to an empty address does not wait for you to find out about it.
